According to a new announcement from the White House on Friday, President Joe Biden’s Communications Director, Kate Bedingfield, will be stepping down this month.

The Daily Caller says that Ben LaBolt will replace Bedingfield for this role. The White House did not clarify what Bedingfield would do next.

Before taking this role, Bedingfield held three different White House communications leadership roles in the Obama-Biden White House. She was also the Communications Director for then-Vice-President Biden from 2015 to 2016. She also served as the deputy campaign manager during Biden’s 2020 Presidential campaign.

LaBolt will be the first openly gay White House communications director in history. He has done many different things, including leading communications during the confirmation of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.

He has also served on three Presidential campaigns and had communications positions in the House and Senate. He was even the press secretary for then-Senator Barack Obama. He has also served as an advisor during the Biden-Harris transition period in late 2020 and early 2021.

Biden said the following in a statement about the change in personnel: “Since my time as Vice President, Kate has been a loyal and trusted adviser, through thick and thin.”

“She was a critical strategic voice from the very first day of my presidential campaign in 2019 and has been a key part of advancing my agenda in the White House. The country is better off as a result of her hard work and I’m so grateful to her – and to her husband and two young children – for giving so much. Ben has big shoes to fill. I look forward to welcoming him back as a first-rate communicator who’s shown his commitment to public service again and again, and who has a cutting-edge understanding of how Americans consume information. I saw him fight for Justice Jackson, and he put his all into helping us make history confirming our cabinet and subcabinet nominees. I’m proud to have him rejoin this team.”

This is another major shakeup at the White House, as it was also recently announced that White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain decided to step down recently. His top economic adviser, Brian Deese, and Labor Secretary Marty Walsh have also stepped down in recent weeks. It seems like many people are leaving the ship at this time, which might be of concern to those in the White House.
