Sen. Martha McSally, R-Ariz., like many others, crashed Fox News for its decision late Tuesday night to call the contest for her Democrat challenger Mark Kelly, representing the step as "premature."

As of 1:48 a.m. EDT Wednesday, The Associated Press and other outlets yet had not called the Senate race, according to The Washington Times. Kelly led McSally 54% to 46% with 76% of the vote calculated.

Caroline Anderegg, a spokesperson for McSally, released a remark on Fox's early call, saying, "We will continue to wait for votes to come in. This race is not over.

"Like Mark said, every vote should be counted. With one million votes to be counted and no Election Day results reported from Maricopa County, the decision to make a call at this point is irresponsible."

Speaking to followers late Tuesday, Kelly, a former astronaut, said, "We're going to be successful in this mission."

President Donald Trump and his campaign were reportedly furious at Fox for projecting early that Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden had got Arizona, flipping a state the GOP has gained since 1996.

Conservative election night watchers, including those in the White House, were also disappointed with the network, causing them to change the channel.

Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes tweeted early Thursday morning that nearly 1.8 million ballots were cast. That's an informal number at this point. He also said about 275,000 ballots were remaining to be counted plus provisional ballots. He expected to publish new numbers at about 7 p.m.

When Maricopa County Election officials published more vote totals Wednesday evening, Joe Biden's lead over President Donald Trump narrowed by 13,644 votes.

Maricopa elections officials said Wednesday that there are approximately 338,000 early ballots left to include plus 17,334 provisional ballots to process. Workers still need to verify 6,357 early ballots, according to the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office. County officials said it renewed the count numbers at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and another update is expected after 11 p.m.

"These things take time," Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes said Tuesday night. "We want to get them done right -- not fast. We've got to signature verify those, process all of those, and then tabulate them. That's gonna take a little time."

After the last ballot update, Joe Biden leads over President Donald Trump in Arizona 50.49% to 48.14%. In Arizona's contentious Senate race, Mark Kelly led over Martha McSally 52.11% to 47.89%.
