As Media Celebrates 'Demise Of Trump' Has Anyone Asked Why States Still Counting Votes?

The presidential election is over according to the media as major states still continue to count ballots, in particular those cast by mail in unusual numbers.

To the dismay of President Donald Trump, Democratic candidate Joe Biden suddenly grabbed a lead in the few battleground states where the results remained in flux. Both candidates claimed potential trials to triumph although the news declared Biden the winner - and again, the counting is still going on.

Nevada as an example has not yet provided any new unofficial election results from its main urban areas and is not expected to until approximately noon or later New York time this coming Monday, based on announcements from the secretary of state’s office and county officials. That leaves a stressful race in limbo for another night.

A Republican victory in Nevada is still less likely than a Democratic one at this point, not just because of Biden’s lead, albeit slim, but because almost all of the outstanding ballots are mail ballots, which heavily favor Democrats simply because they are far more favored by Democrats than Republicans.

Of the nearly 600,000 mail ballots that have been returned by voters statewide, almost half of them have been from Democrats while only a quarter have been from Republicans and the rest from nonpartisans and those registered with minor political parties.

There is also a small subset of temporary ballots, including those cast by voters who registered to vote on Election Day, and other types of ballots, such as overseas ballots, that remain to be counted as well.

However, the votes contained in those ballots are not just consequential in the presidential race but in key down ballot races in Nevada as well. Two Democratic members of Congress are hanging on by narrow margins in their races while Democrats in the Senate appear poised to potentially lose major seats that would remove them from a supermajority in that chamber.

A Biden victory in Nevada would mark the 270 votes he needs -- assuming other states’ informal results sustain.

So far, Biden leads the state by fewer than 8,000 votes in returns that represent all in-person votes on Election Day and early voting as well as most mail-in ballots received before Nov. 3. Remaining ballots include all other mail-in and temporary ballots cast by same-day registered voters.

The total number of outstanding ballots is unknown, said Nevada Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske.

While Cegavske said her office may post some results to its website before a comprehensive report on Thursday, those results will not include new information from Clark County, home to Las Vegas, and Washoe County, home to Reno. Both counties said they will update their election results on Thursday about 1 p.m. New York time.

No matter what, the numbers won’t be final on Thursday. Nevada allows mail-in ballots postmarked on Election Day to be received by clerks until Nov. 10; rejected ballots may be “cured” by voters until Nov. 12.
